Analytical Edna

A logic problem - students have to interpret information and put a list of names in order. The focus is on communication, teamworking and problem solving.

Buyers and Sellers Market

An ice-breaker exercise that divides students into buyers and sellers.

Disco committee

Groups have to produce a list of the five senior pupils that they think should form a committee to organise a disco for the younger pupils.

Effective presentations

Short activity that can be used during a Programme’s introduction. It gets students used to working in teams early on and the outcomes, importantly, should be a set of ground rules for the day ahead about giving, and listening, to presentations.

Egg cups

Gives a general introduction to how business is organised. It highlights the roles of different departments and the need for them to talk to each other.

Holiday rota

Groups are asked to organise a summer holiday rota when not all of the requests can be met.

Management qualities

Short activity (can be used as ice breaker). Could be used in a seminar on HR or the role of managers.

Red-Blue

The focus of this activity is to challenge perceptions and prejudices about the role of "the manager" and relationships within the workplace.

Shapes

Short activity – can be used as ice-breaker. Purpose is to highlight the importance of, and need for, effective two-way communications.

Supermarket crisis

This activity is about making decisions in a team. It focuses on communication, team working and problem solving.

A short activity that will help to get students to work together in groups.
